Named for its Italian craftsmanship, Italkraft opens a state-of-the-art showroom for custom cabinetry and other design services in New York.

At Italkraft’s stunning new showroom in New York’s Flatiron District, the Miami-based maker of custom cabinetry crafted in Italy wastes no time in showing off its wares. Right off the bat, guests encounter a model kitchen vignette. Its solid, dark wood exudes a dizzy richness, while its island bar gives a warm welcome.

“It’s an ideal space to entertain and host events of all kinds,” said Diana Viera, an architect and partner in Italkraft’s New York location.

There are multiple kitchens to explore here, as well as custom designs for baths, dream closets and home offices, which have experienced huge interest with the shift to WFH. Like sedimentary rock, each layer of their construction is exposed to reveal materials and the depth of craftsmanship. As millwork experts and Sub-Zero and Wolf dealers, Italkraft also customizes, manufactures and installs the whole package. Viera notes a Miami residence whose every surface from floors to walls to cabinetry features the same wood to ultimate Zen effect.

Designs often follow furniture trends according to Viera. She notices more requests for rounded shapes, warm woods in light to dark finishes and a mix of textures such as leather-paneled drawers. Popular colors range from marine blue to art deco-inspired pastels. Multi-use concepts are on the rise, too.

“People are getting very creative in how they maximize spaces these days, like a guest room that doubles as a home office, or a personal wet spa with a soaking tub inside a spacious shower,” she said, regarding the burst of imagination that grew from covid’s home renovation and building boom. “We’ve been working nonstop since New Yorkers are relocating to new cities like Miami or re-evaluating their homes in the New York area for maximum comfort and function.”

To meet demand, Italkraft is expanding its headquarters and showroom in Doral, Fla., a suburb of Miami, to 20,000 square feet this year. It also has showrooms in Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Washington D.C., Miami’s Wynwood and Cancún, Mexico.
