In 17 short seconds, the Spyder’s soft top disappears from its sleek perch, tucking into the rear deck as it announces a synchronicity of emotion and freedom to the sun, moon, and sky. The Huracán Spyder maintains a 40 percent torsional stiffness over the Gallardo soft top, employing a lightweight, hybrid carbon fiber and aluminum structure. Also besting the Gallardo in handling capability, the Spyder delivers 50 percent more downforce, showing off its brilliance in tight turns. Additionally, the Spyder’s effective but imperceptible pop-up safety bars have the good manners to refrain from interruption of the car’s sleek profile.
The naturally aspirated mid-engine 610 hp V10 engine delivers 413 ft. lbs. of torque, moving from motionless to 62 mph in a quick 3.4 seconds, just .2 seconds off the time of the coupé. The Lamborghini Doppia Frizione (LDF) 7-speed dual clutch gearbox duplicates that of the coupé, but the Spyder’s cylinder-on-demand system deactivates cylinder banks when the demands of driving decrease, while its stop start technology works with that deactivation to reduce both fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
