PASSION AND PERFORMANCE

When the best simply isn’t good enough, some challenge themselves to raise the bar further. Such was the case with Ferruccio Lamborghini when he established Automobili Lamborghini in 1962.

In keeping with tradition, Automobili Lamborghini continues to improve on perfection, as is evidenced by the fresh, new, soft top version of the Huracán, the LP 610-4 Spyder. Carefully designed and constructed with every important detail that made the Huracán coupé an epic, the Huracán Spyder adds an important feature its predecessor lacks

In 17 short seconds, the Spyder’s soft top disappears from its sleek perch, tucking into the rear deck as it announces a synchronicity of emotion and freedom to the sun, moon, and sky. Connecting the driver with its heartbeat, the engine sings its praises to the open road as the rear window independently lowers to more fully engage its powerful voice. Moving from closed to open at speeds up to 31 mph, the lowering top prompts two rear fins to appear with purpose, focused on refined aerodynamics and optimized engine compartment airflow.

The soft top effortlessly maintains the center of balance in either position, honoring design aesthetics that dovetail form with function. Powered by an electrohydraulic mechanism controlled by a button on the central tunnel, the top raises and lowers independently of the rear window, allowing intimate conversation with the engine regardless of the top’s position.

Design and construction of a convertible model born of a coupé require considerable thought and engineering to ensure performance and power with a very different set of statistics. Despite the distinction of being the best selling convertible in Lamborghini’s history, The Gallardo’s 14,000 units may be surpassed by the impressive technology of its new Huracán sibling.

The Huracán Spyder maintains a 40 percent torsional stiffness over the Gallardo soft top, employing a lightweight, hybrid carbon fiber and aluminum structure. Also besting the Gallardo in handling capability, the Spyder delivers 50 percent more downforce, showing off its brilliance in tight turns. Additionally, the Spyder’s effective but imperceptible pop-up safety bars have the good manners to refrain from interruption of the car’s sleek profile.

The naturally aspirated mid-engine 610 hp V10 engine delivers 413 ft. lbs. of torque, moving from motionless to 62 mph in a quick 3.4 seconds, just .2 seconds off the time of the coupé. The Lamborghini Doppia Frizione (LDF) 7-speed dual clutch gearbox duplicates that of the coupé, but the Spyder’s cylinder-on-demand system deactivates cylinder banks when the demands of driving decrease, while its stop start technology works with that deactivation to reduce both fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

Those who revel in pursuit of excellence, enjoying the spirit of open sky while driving a machine that raises the bar on perfection, will find the The Huracán LP 610-4 Spyder an exhilarating departure so intriguing, it may even convince the sun to come out and play. After all, with this machine, you do theoretically own the sky.
