Georgia Football Player, Staff Member Killed In Car Crash

The University of Georgia was devastated to announce the death of two members of the Georgia football program early Sunday morning. Devin Willock, a redshirt sophomore from New Milford, NJ and star offensive lineman, and Chandler LeCroy, a recruiting staff member, were killed in a single-vehicle accident in Athens. Two additional members of the football program were injured, both of whom are reported to be in stable condition.

This heartbreaking incident comes hours after the team celebrated their latest consecutive National Championship win with a parade and ceremony at Sanford Stadium.

According to the Athens-Clarke County Police, the wreck happened around 2:45 a.m. Sunday, as a Ford Expedition left the road and struck two power poles as well as several trees. While Devin passed away at the scene, Chandler was transported to a local hospital by ambulance and succumbed to her injuries.

The 6-foot-7 and 335-pound Willock had played in all of the teams 15 games throughout the season.  He was ranked the No. 39 guard prospect in the country and No. 17 prospect in New Jersey by ESPN Recruiting as a senior at Paramus Catholic High School in 2020.

“The UGA Athletic Association will work with our medical team as well as our mental health and performance personnel to make sure we are providing the best support possible for our staff and student-athletes who are processing this grief,” the university said in a statement. “We can provide no further comment at this time but ask that everyone continue to keep those involved in your prayers.”
