Georgia Bulldogs Crush TCU To Win Second Straight CFP Championship

It was the University of Georgia’s year, AGAIN. On Monday January 9, 2023, the Bulldogs staked their claim to an unprecedented second CFP National Championship in a row. It was the fourth time a college football team had accomplished the feat since 1990, but the first ever to do so in the nine-year College Football Playoff era.

For the longest time, the Georgia Bulldogs were measuring their successes against those foundational programs of college football’s ruling class. Now, after dominating TCU 65-7 in the national championship game, it’s time for the rest of college football to take notice.

UGA began the game with a bang, scoring immediately on their first drive. The Bulldogs’ powerful offense backed up their assertion that they were the best team in the country, as they ran, passed and kicked their way down the field with ease.

The defense was just as impressive. They limited the other team to minimal offensive production, holding TCU to a total of 7 points.

The Bulldogs’ 65-7 victory on Monday night at SoFi Stadium was the most lopsided college football title game in the sport’s 152 year history.

UGA’s 29 wins over the past two seasons, tied with any major team in the FBS, is the most ever for an SEC school. With so many starters coming back, Georgia will roll into next season with a reloaded team with expectations that they can three peat and establish a championship era. Head coach Kirby Smart was asked just that after the game.

“I don’t know about that word, era; I’m not even sure what an era is,” Kirby Smart confessed as the confetti rained on him at SoFi Stadium. “But I know what a great program looks like, a program that is built to last. I was part of four national championships as an assistant coach at Alabama. I know how hard it is to get to the peak of the sport, and I know it is even harder to stay there. I know what the foundation of that looks like. I think we are building that foundation. I hope we are.”

Kirby Smart and his squad must continue to work hard and guard against complacency if they are to maintain their place among the college football elites. This win has cemented the Bulldogs into the ruling class, with the rest of the world left once again to marvel at the power of UGA football.
