As the world returns to normalcy we are buzzing with invitations to summer soirées, often in the form of home entertaining. This is the time to razzle dazzle company with dramatic mood lighting. Spotlight that new sculpture on the lawn, soften the glow for guests gathering around a kitchen island to toast the cook, and up-light an allée of trees for al fresco feasts. Lighting designer Nathan Orsman has mastered all of these tricks and more to make a place shine.

He and his team have collaborated with heavy hitters in the design world like Steven Gambrel, Bunny Williams and Peter Marino, as well as on some really fun and interesting destinations that depend on the need for lighting to build a frisson and sense of place. With office locations in Southampton, Miami and New York City he makes the process seamless for the client and the end result exactly what they are trying to achieve.

During the summer months Nathan spends weekends in Sag Harbor with his husband Joe Castro entertaining with friends enjoying the local restaurants and scene. Both men consider lighting as a main goal to creating a warm and welcoming environment. You can find them at places like Le Bilboquet or Beacon.

Orsman further sprinkles his skills around through philanthropy. Every year he selects a local project in his East End community to donate his firm’s time and materials. The Parrish Art Museum’s outdoor sculpture exhibit benefited this round.
